​Meet passionate re-enactors who will bring the lives of soldiers and civilians from that era back to life for a day. Discover the camp, the uniforms, the equipment, field cooking and how a camp is organised.

 

Explore traditional craft skills with Fabienne. She’ll take you on a journey into the world of 19th-century beauty treatments: ointments, dry cleansing, rose water, orange blossom water, Napoleon’s use of Eau de Cologne, and more…​

 

Follow Marshal Ney as he introduces you to the staff officers: communications, meals, personal grooming, perfumes and the daily life of the command.​

 

Meet the Marquis to learn all about the cavalry, a cavalryman’s equipment and the vital role of the horse in 1815.

The ‘Little Soldier’s School’ will welcome the youngest visitors for a fun introduction to calligraphy, lighting a fire, using a spyglass and many other skills from days gone by.

An exceptional day of discoveries, activities and encounters to enjoy as a family, bringing you up close to history!​

Festival de forge - Ligny 1815 museum - Les maîtres du fer et du feu

On 26 and 27 September 2026, the Ligny 1815 Museum will host the first edition of ‘Maîtres du Fer et du Feu’, a festival dedicated to the traditional crafts of blacksmithing and metallurgy.

The programme includes demonstrations, introductory sessions to blacksmithing, bronze and iron casting, educational workshops for families and historical re-enactments.​

 

On Saturday evening, a special torchlit event will bring together the blacksmiths present on site, featuring musical entertainment and the first castings of a miniature cannon inspired by the one at Ligny, which is set to become an iconic souvenir of the museum.
